about me

Hello! I’m Therese and I like to cook.  I also want to be healthy, so this is where I will document my attempts at making those two mesh! I am a diehard calorie counter and use MyFitnessPal to track my calories. That’s where all my nutrition information comes from. I love being able to create a recipe on the spot in my app and get all my nutrition info for the recipe as I create it! I rarely make the same exact recipe twice since I never have the same ingredients and I love to tweak things. However I think it’s probably a good idea to at have a log of all my successes and failures! Since this is primarily for my friends who want my recipes, I hope you guys enjoy them as much as I do!

C and I when he was tiny. Before I lost my ‘baby weight’ with clean eating, calorie counting and working out.

I don’t follow any one particular ‘diet’. I try as much as possible to stick to whole, real, unprocessed foods. Fruits, veggies, lean proteins, whole grains and some dairy. I say some dairy because I eat yogurt and cheese, but I drink unsweetened almond milk (and love it). I have done paleo/primal style eating but have a very hard time eliminating grains from my diet. Mostly because I love to bake. I also am a normal person and this is a lifestyle choice for me, not a 30 day kind of thing, so I’m ok modifying it to fit my needs on a day-to-day basis. (Sometimes I want to eat some freakin whole grain pasta. So sue me. (J/k I am poor, don’t sue me.)) I will say that I am a huge advocate of eating real food, I guess that’s my food philosophy. It just makes sense to me. *In the interest of full disclosure as I am writing this I am drinking a diet Dr. Pepper Cherry. I know. I am hypocrite! I hate that I bought these, I am still not sure why I did it. Advertising?

I love working out and try to do at least 5 a week. My workouts include running, yoga, weight training, and a ton of CrossFit style workouts that I can do from home while C is sleeping. I started taking a CrossFit style boot camp class last March and it really helped my fitness take off! I had a personal trainer before I started this class and that gave me the confidence to try something new. The class is what really took me to the next level. Now I push myself to make working out a part of my every day instead of my old two days a week training and maybe some pop in cardio sessions at the gym routine. I look up workouts on pinterest and have a few people’s videos I like to do. Jillian Michael’s dvd’s are fast and effective and Melissa Bender has a blog where she shares her workouts and recipes. I like to make stuff up as well, for example: 3 rounds for time of 15 push ups, 30 sit-ups and 45 squats. Or anything involving bodyweight. With Bodyweight exercises, there’s really no excuse I can give myself not to just do them!

C and I now.  (not right now obviously, I’m on the computer typing this, not frolicking in a park. Perhaps by the time you’re reading this I will be frolicking in a park.)

I’ve lost around 30 pounds and am at my lowest, leanest weight in my life. I am also the strongest I’ve ever been and am working towards my goal of doing 5 Pull-ups by the end of this year. On a good day I can do 2 right now!

Thanks for checking out my page!
